High Intermediate/Advanced
Grammar for Biomedical Professionals is an intensive, 14-week grammar course that will prepare you to communicate accurately in biomedical writing tasks. In this course, you will significantly improve your ability to:
- Recognize the characteristics of well written sentences and paragraphs by examining models of effective writing
- Write clear, concise, and complete sentences and paragraphs
- Express your ideas in an efficient and sophisticated manner
- Edit your own writing for common grammar errors.
This course covers many areas of grammar as it affects your writing, and your instructor will help you identify the areas most important to improving the effectiveness of your writing. However, some of the specific grammar areas you may focus on are:
- Fragments, run-ons, and comma splices
- Verb tense and modal consistency
- Gerunds and infinitives
- Plurals and possessives
- Transitional words and phrases
- Pronoun reference
- Articles and quantifiers.
You will work with your instructor and peers on daily writing and editing exercises, as well as several formal writing assignments. You will receive daily individualized feedback on your writing from your instructor.
Please note that this course meets for a full 14-week semester, rather than a 7-week half semester.
