Course Proposal Evaluation

The Committee will evaluate course proposals based on the following criteria:

  1. Does the course have substantive intellectual content?
      
  2. Are the criteria for evaluating student performance clearly described in the syllabus?
      
  3. Are the topics to be covered, readings, and other assignments clearly and adequately described in the syllabus?
      
  4. Is the level of course appropriate for the students who may take it?
      
  5. Is the description of the course for the Course Register adequate (succinct and informative)?
      
  6. A If the course is to be cross-listed in another department, has the chair of the chair of that department indicated approval (by letter or e-mail)?

Course Action Form

This site includes detailed instructions for submitting courses for review, an on-line form and a list of the kinds of changes to existing courses of which the committee is to be notified.

Note: Course proposals that need to be approved by the December meeting of the faculty must be submitted to the Curriculum Committee by the Monday closest to October 15. Course proposals that need approval by the April meeting must be submitted by the beginning of the third week of February. Please refer to Timeline for specific dates.
