Reporting of Final GradesIt is the responsibility of each faculty member to report final grades on time. In the fall semester a student's application to graduate or professional school may be seriously jeopardized by an inaccurate or incomplete transcript. In addition, the decision whether to drop a student because of unsatisfactory progress is especially complicated when grades are missing. In the spring semester, because there is such a short window of time between exams and Commencement, late grades can prevent a student from being graduated on time. Grades in each course must be reported to the Registrar by the date announced each semester on the grade sheets. For the fall semester, this date is set as the day the University reopens after the winter break. The Registrar would very much appreciate it if faculty would submit their grades within 72 hours of the time of their final exam, since this facilitates processing of the grades. For the spring semester, all grades must be turned in by the Monday following the last day of the final exam period. Please ensure that your faculty submit their grades on time. Independent Study: Faculty supervising independent study projects often grant extra time for students to finish. If an instructor wants to grant extra time for an independent study, he or she should mark the grade sheet with an I (short incomplete) or II (long incomplete), submit it on time and then use a change-of-grade form when a final grade is ready. see Change of Grade, for information on changing grades.
