Rosina Miller
Rosina S. Miller earned a Ph.D. from the Graduate Program in Folklore
and Folklife at the University of Pennsylvania in December of 2005. Her
dissertation, "Performing the Urban Village: Art, Place-Making, and
Cultural Politics in North Central Philadelphia," is a place-based
ethnography that examines the ways in which the Village of Arts and
Humanities, an urban arts organization, and the community it serves use
expressive culture to revitalize the neighborhood and organize the area
into a submetropolitan region capable of exercising control over local
social and economic development. Her research interests include personal narratives, documentary theater, and urban cultural organizations, particularly arts for social change programs. Rosina is continuing research at the Village and similar local arts organizations, with anemphasis on the sharing and staging of personal narratives.
