What is a news image? In an era where news images are increasingly motivating the public domain, there remains a fundamental lack of clarity about what a news image is, how it is presumed to function, and under which kinds of circumstances its appearance, centrality and memorability take shape. This course will consider the news image in its various forms, paying particular attention to its conceptualization, evolution, standards for presentation, public debates over its use and its presumed impact.
