This course directs the theoretical and methodological approaches
of the anthropology of music toward the music of Latin America,
the Caribbean, and Hispanics in the United States. The organization
of musical sounds will be studied as they are embedded within
cultural, historical, political, religious, and performance contexts.
Topic include music and politics; nationalism and ethnic identity;
migration; trans nationalism and musical transformation; music
and ritual; gender and performance.
