FOLK 605 401 Anthropology of Music

This seminar provides an introduction to ethnomusicology through
reading core musical ethnographies, as well as listening to, and
analyzing musical repertories read about. Students are required
to actively engage in weekly seminar discussions, and to develop
skills for talking about the music read about and listened to
through the course of the semester. Books and repertories will
be selected to cover a large spectrum of the globe. The final
project requires students to write a grant proposal for the study
of music as a cultural practice.
