Internships and Research Assistance
Many folklorists do their work with particular social groups,
children or the aged, manual laborers or nuclear physicists, ethnics,
political groups, etc. One way for you to experience your potential
to work with people is to undertake an internship. Countless organizations
in Philadelphia search for volunteers, may offer summer internships,
some are associated with the university. You may find an internship
not only rewarding and interesting, but also a potential beginning
for field research.
You may also wish to volunteer as a research assistant for a
faculty member; very rarely there are work-study opportunities
available, but you can gain valuable experience also by working
as a volunteer.
