Lessons in Leadership
The College of Arts and Sciences has developed leaders in all fields including presidents of leading non-profit organizations, CEOs of some of the world's leading businesses, sports executives, award-winning actors and actresses, scientists who are developing new treatments for cancer and leading politicians.
Through Lessons in Leadership, the Fox Program invites these leaders to campus. The speakers are asked to reflect on critical choices in their personal and professional lives such as:
- How did you select your career?
- What are the emerging trends in your field?
- What leadership skills do you think are the most essential for success?
- How do you balance work and family life?
- How did your liberal arts education prepare you for your career?
The alumni leaders make these remarks during a one-hour public event that includes about 30 minutes for questions from the students. The speech is followed by a reception in which students talk with the guest in a more informal setting. Following the reception 12-15 students have dinner with the guest. The students who join the guest for dinner include Fox Student Steering Committee members and other students who have a keen interest in the speaker's field.
