Civic Entrepreneurship
The Fox Program encourages students to develop, implement and/or participate in projects of civic excellence. We have recently worked on several Civic Entrepreneurship projects.
Working in partnership with many student organizations, Fox has developed Penn Leads the Vote, a non-partisan voter education and mobilization project. In the 2006 congressional elections, on-campus voter turnout tripled compared to the 2002 elections. Working in partnership with Big Brothers Big Sisters Southeastern Pennsylvania, we have created one of the five largest campus-based mentoring programs in the country.
Our newest initiative, FLINOLA (Fox Leadership in New Orleans, Louisiana), mobilizes 100 students anually for spring break service projects, and offers summer internship opportunities for students working with organizations engaged in the post-Katrina recovery process.
Through the Food Stamp Enrollment Campaign, Penn students and staff help to educate low-income Philadelphians about the availability of Food Stamps and help eligible adults complete applications. Fox helped students organize the Medial Emergency Response Team(MERT) in which students provide EMT services to campus and nearby neighborhoods.
