Location: Chemistry 1973 Wing
Project: Laboratory Renovation and Fume Hood Replacement
Description: The Summer 2007 hiring of a senior faculty member resulted in the need to accommodate laboratory space for 14 organic chemistry grad students very quickly. We worked with the Chemistry department to free four adjacent lab rooms in the 1973 wing of the Chemistry complex. We replaced fourteen outdated fume hoods with new Mott fume hoods customizing the specific utilities to suit the investigators. The building’s original case work was reconfigured and refinished, while new workstations for the graduate student investigators were installed utilizing both new and pre-existing Knoll furniture. The new workstations compliment the look of the vintage casework, while the new flooring and other finishes create a warm but modern research environment.
