The Renovation
The Music Building renovation will modernize and expand this historic building - an 1892 structure designed by Cope and Stewardson - while paying tribute to its essential character. Plans for the interior include doubling the number of practice rooms, upgrading the building's wiring and basic systems and improving lighting and soundproofing. The exterior work will restore the building's rich, orange terra cotta and its open-aired front porch. A second public entrance will be constructed, as will a new addition that will nearly double the size of the facility. The Music Building renovation has also been registered with the United States Green Building Council (USGBC) to receive Silver-level Leadership in Environmental and Energy Design (LEED) certification.
