Music and the Liberal Arts
The Department of Music in the School of Arts and Sciences has long been home to renowned faculty, an outstanding program of undergraduate study and a graduate program that is consistently ranked among the top ten in the nation. It engages more than 1000 students every year in what it means to "think musically," to understand the history and social context of music and to probe questions of musical meaning. It also lies at the center of a culture of music on campus, offering musical instruction and performance opportunities for students across the University. "The groups really add to how I see myself developing as a musician and as someone who appreciates music. You can hear what it is that brings people to music and how many different ways you can come to it."
