Making History: The Campaign for Penn was officially launched on October 20, 2007 with a major campus-wide celebration. However, the roots of this initiative reach back to July 1, 2005, when the University began what is generally known as the "quiet phase" of the campaign. During this time, which is also referred to as the nucleus-fund phase, we received leadership gifts from many alumni, parents and friends of SAS who were committed to getting the School's campaign off to a strong start. We are grateful for their leadership and dedication; through their generosity we secured $155 million as of September 30, 2007, toward our ambitious goal of $500 million.
Included among these were gifts from 46 donors in the amount of $1 million or more (figure includes nucleus-fund gifts received by September 30, 2007). These gifts, and all gifts to the nucleus fund and the campaign, will enable us to continue to provide undergraduates with an unrivalled education, train future leaders in teaching and research and advance the frontiers of knowledge.
