Dear Alumni, Friends, and Supporters,
I write to you today to share the exciting progress that the School of Arts and Sciences is making towards the Making History campaign. In this edition of the Campaign Update, learn more about our goals and priorities, like our plans to renovate the Music Building. Read the story of Tom and Judy Flesh, PAR’03, PAR’08, PAR’11, both children of Holocaust survivors, who created the Flesh Family Scholarship in the College as a testament to the importance of education and perseverance. Connect with former dean of the School Samuel Preston and his wife, Winnie, who have combined philanthropy with practicality to make support of undergraduate financial aid a key component of their retirement plans.
In addition, I would like to tell you about our phenomenal success towards our goal of faculty support through the generosity of friends like Christopher Browne, C’69, chair of the School’s Board of Overseers and co-chair of its campaign committee; Carol, W’80, and Michael Lowenstein, C’80; and Cathy and Marc Lasry, PAR’07; among others Their generous commitments have established named professorships across the humanities, the natural sciences and the social sciences – professorships that are integral in helping us recruit and retain the brilliant minds that are already illuminating their fields, as well as the rising stars who will step into their shoes. Nowhere else will you find a faculty so willing to engage with students, to lead in research and to connect with colleagues globally and across disciplines for a better world, and we are thrilled that we are already over $118 million towards our $195 million goal to support our stellar teachers and scholars.
It is an exciting time at the School of Arts and Sciences, and we would not be where we are today with the support of friends like you. We look forward to partnering with you into the future as we strive together to continue to make history in the Arts and Sciences.
Sincerely,
Rebecca W. Bushnell
Dean
