Biological Basis of Behavior Students Teach Their Way to a Better Understanding of the Brain
In a unique twist on the traditional science fair, the Kids Judge! Neuroscience Fair gives kids a chance to pass judgment on science projects put together by Penn students. Every year, undergraduates in the Biological Basis of Behavior (BBB) major and graduate students in neuroscience compete for the winner's circle by conceiving and building hands-on, fun-filled learning stations that teach local elementary school children how the brain and nervous system work. By asking student scientists to play the role of teacher, this event helps them understand their subject more thoroughly and become better communicators.
The Biological Basis of Behavior Program is an interdisciplinary major in which students explore the relationship between behavior (both human and animal) and its organic foundation. BBB sponsors Penn's Kid's Judge! Neuroscience Fair along with the Mahoney Institute of Neurological Science, Access Science, the Center for Community Partnerships, the Provost's Interdisciplinary Seminar Fund and the National Kids Judge! Neuroscience Fairs Partnership.
