Assistant professor of political science Tulia Falleti has received the Best Paper Prize of the Latin American Studies Association’s Section on Decentralization and National Studies for her essay “Of Presidents, Governors, and Mayors: The Politics of Decentralization in Latin America.”
She has also been invited to address a conference being convened by the Constitutional Commission of Bolivia’s National Congress, which is preparing for a likely constitutional convention next year. Falleti, who specializes in issues of federalism, intergovernmental relations and decentralization, with a focus on Latin America, will present an analysis of systems of fiscal decentralization in Latin America.
Before coming to Penn earlier this year, Falleti held postdoctoral positions at the Liu Institute for Global Issues at the University of British Columbia and at the Helen Kellogg Institute for International Studies at the University of Notre Dame. Previously, she was a visiting scholar at the Watson Institute for International Studies at Brown University and at research centers in Mexico and Argentina. She has also been an instructor in political science at Northwestern University and in sociology at the University of Buenos Aires and the University of Palermo in Argentina.
