College Senior Receives Gates Cambridge Scholarship
February 2007
Alix Rogers, a College senior with a double major in Health and Societies and Philosophy, is one of 98 scholars selected from 32 countries to receive this year's Gates Cambridge Scholarship.
One of academia's most prestigious prizes, the Games Cambridge Scholarship funds full-time study at the famed English institution for students from around the world. Rogers is the fifteenth recipient of the award at Penn since it was created in 2000 and was chosen from a pool of nearly 600 applicants.
Rogers, who became interested in the scholarship after having a conversation with Arthur Casciato, the director of Penn's Center for Undergraduate Research and Fellowships, is the president of Penn's Bioethics Society. She is also the founder of Penn's Bioethics Journal and a member of the equestrian team.
The scholarship, which was started by a $210 million endowment by Bill and Melinda Gates, covers the full cost of study at Cambridge including tuition and fees.
