Political Scientist Diana Mutz Awarded Goldsmith Book Prize
February 2007
Diana Mutz, the Samuel A. Stouffer Professor of Political Science and Communication, has received the Goldsmith Book Prize for her book Hearing the Other Side. Published by Cambridge University Press, Hearing the Other Side examines what happens when people with opposing political views interact with one another in the context of the contemporary United States. Mutz suggests that it is unlikely that a political culture highly involved in activism can be pragmatic and discerning as well. Paul Sniderman of Stanford University has said "A small number of books make an important contribution. This one makes a profound one."
The Goldsmith Book Prize is awarded by the Shorenstein Center at Harvard University to honor the book published in the last year that best fulfills the objective of improving government through an examination of the intersection between press, politics, and public policy.
