2003 Polymeric Materials Science and Engineering Fellow: Professor Virgil Percec
October 14, 2003
The American Chemical Society has identified chemistry professor Virgil Percec as the 2004 recipient of its Award in Polymer Chemistry.
Professor Percec is the P. Roy Vagelos Professor in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. He was educated in Romania, where he received his B.S. and M.S. from the Polytechnic Institute of Jassy and his Ph.D. from the Institute of Macromolecular Chemistry in Jassy. His research interests include the development of novel synthetic methods; the design, synthesis, and structural analysis of complex molecular, macromolecular, and supramolecular systems; and the elaboration of new concepts at the interface of organic, macromolecular, and supramolecular chemistry using nature as a model. Earlier this year, Professor Percec was named a fellow of Polymeric Materials: Science and Engineering, a division of the American Chemical Society, which is the world’s largest scientific society.
The award, which recognizes outstanding contributions in the field of polymer chemistry, will be presented during the organization’s national meeting in March 2004 in Anaheim, CA
