Fisher–Bennett Hall Renovation Is a Success
After an 18-month renovation project, the School
of Arts and Sciences welcomed students and faculty
back to Fisher–Bennett Hall in January 2006.
When it emerged from its renovation, the first
comprehensive one in its long history, the building
carried the name Fisher–Bennett Hall in recognition
of a leadership gift from Richard L. Fisher, C’63,
G’67.
Today, Fisher–Bennett Hall provides teaching
space each semester for over 240 courses in 40
departments and programs in its thoroughly modernized
classrooms and seminar rooms. In addition to continuing
to serve as the home of the Department of English,
Fisher–Bennett Hall now houses the Cinema
Studies Program and the College of General Studies
English Language Programs; it is also the primary
teaching space for Penn’s Center for Programs
in Contemporary Writing and a critical teaching
and rehearsal space for the Department of Music.
The School of Arts and Sciences is grateful to
the many alumni and friends who, through their
generous gifts, made the successful renovation
of this campus landmark possible. |

celebrated the reopening with a series of readings,
performances, and film screenings. Access photos, audio
clips and video highlights

Over 60 percent of the cost of the renovation project
was met through contributions from alumni and friends.
