Laboratory of Hygiene

Laboratory of Hygiene, University of Pennsylvania, circa 1892. By the end of the century, the right wing was expanded to accommodate more than 100 students in the bacteriology laboratory. Later known as Smith Hall, the building was demolished amidst tremendous controversy in the mid-1990s. (American Society for Microbiology Archives)
