Resources for Italian Studies

The Center for Italian Studies assists regularly matriculated Penn students in Italian Studies and other areas in pursuing plans for study in Italy through Penn-in-Venice and the other university-affiliated academic programs and internships listed below, as well as for individual research projects. Over the years the Center has secured support for a number of research awards and now is able to offer funding for projects across the entire educational spectrum. Through the endowed Salvatori Research Fund, the Center is able to subvene publication of its conference proceedings, as well as publication and travel to Italy for research in areas of Italian Studies by faculty and graduate students. The Amici Prize supports undergraduate research in Italy. Finally, with the Vittorini Prizes, the Center offers awards for outstanding achievement in Italian course work at the University of Pennsylvania.

To enhance the program of instruction in Italian, the Center makes available such materials as textbooks, films, newspapers, and periodicals from Italy, and supports activities like "Il cenacolo italiano", hosted at Harrison College House to give undergraduates the opportunity to meet and speak Italian outside the classroom, and "L'officina italiana", which offers undergraduates in the second year of language study and beyond help to improve their writing in Italian.
