| Geoffrey Barnes received a B.A. (1989) and Ph.D. (1999) from the
University of Maryland, and an M.Phil. from the University of
Cambridge's Institute of Criminology (1994). He also served for four
years as an officer in the United States Navy (1989-1993), mainly as the
First Lieutenant onboard USS Dale (CG-19). His research has covered a
wide variety of topics, including longitudinal and experimental research
design, restorative justice, firearm use by police officers, police
citizen review panels, foster care, probation, and homicide prevention.
