About LPS

A tradition of excellence and exploration

The College of Liberal and Professional Studies (LPS) is housed within the School of Arts and Sciences at the University of Pennsylvania. The School of Arts and Sciences forms the foundation of the scholarly excellence that has established Penn as one of the world's leading research universities.

Liberal and Professional Studies offers an unrivaled education in the arts and sciences to students seeking new opportunities in their lives. We connect Penn’s resources with the educational needs of audiences beyond the traditional undergraduate population.

Our outstanding students — engaged, curious and driven — come to Penn from all over the world, and from diverse academic and professional backgrounds. LPS staff and faculty are committed to helping our students clarify and achieve their unique goals, whether they encompass intellectual enrichment or academic and career advancement.

Our portfolio includes undergraduate, graduate, certificate and nondegree options. Each of our programs combines a rigorous theoretical foundation with practical application. We believe that innovation occurs when students bring together disparate fields of knowledge, and our programs draw on Penn’s wealth of scholarship to offer opportunities for interdisciplinary study.

Through our programming and our community, we proudly embody the University of Pennsylvania’s mission to encourage lifelong learning relevant to a changing global society.
