Abstract:

This capstone project presents a detailed workshop for couples, based on the principles of positive psychology. This workshop is based on the four pillars of flourishing by Martin Seligman: positive emotion, accomplishment, positive relationships, and meaning. Underlying these pillars are John Gottman’s seven principles for making marriage work. Each principle is supported by practical interventions to obtain it. The structure of the workshop is from the top down: as each pillar is supported by a corresponding principle and each principle is obtained by the appropriate intervention. Participation in this workshop and implementation of the interventions will provide couples with effective communication style and a positive outlook on their partners and the relationship.
