MES/MBA Dual Degree

MES Seminars

What types of projects do MBA/MES students do?

The MES/MBA program is new at Penn and students now in the program have not yet reached the capstone phase of their curriculum. However, Matthew Kondratowitz who did both degrees separately while at Penn and is credited as being an impetus for starting the dual degree, did his project on an Economic Analysis of Biomass and Waste Gasification.

The University of Pennsylvania’s School of Arts and Sciences and the Wharton School have launched a program to enable students to earn a dual Master of Environmental Studies/Master of Business Administration degree in three years or less. This course of study will groom students interested in environmental issues for global leadership roles in environmental management, finance, and other business specialties.

Students will take business classes full time for three semesters at Wharton and spend a year in SAS’ College of Liberal and Professional Studies, which is home to the Master of Environmental Studies program. LPS offers evening and summer classes, enabling students to work at the same time they attend school.

Classes in Wharton’s environmental risk and management track will help students develop a range of skills and knowledge they can apply in business practice. The MES portion of their studies will deepen their knowledge of environmental issues, teach them technical environmental evaluation, and offer them practical field experience.

Students must apply and gain admission to both schools independently. Once admitted, they may choose the joint-degree program.
