Admissions

Admission to the Master of Medical Physics program is highly selective. Our program actively recruits students who have either an undergraduate major in physics or a physical science, mathematics, or related engineering discipline with a strong physics orientation. For students who are not physics majors, we look for a physics minor or its equivalent. This means prospective students need to have taken at least six undergraduate courses, including intermediate-level coursework in electromagnetism, to be qualified to apply to our program. These are the same standards outlined as being required by the American Board of Radiology for all students enrolled in medical physics programs in the United States. In addition to the physics requirements, we also look for students who have taken at least four semesters of college-level calculus, including differential equations. Intermediate-level quantum mechanics, two semesters of college-level chemistry, and a course in anatomy and physiology are preferred.

Applicants are also required to submit test scores for the General GRE Test. In addition to the General Test, we recommend that applicants to the program sit for the Physics Subject Test or another Subject Test related to their undergraduate major.

We try to accommodate all prospective student requests for interviews and campus visits during the Fall application period.  Applicants who are under strong consideration, but have not yet visited campus, will be invited for an interview and tour.  All applicants are required to have interviewed with the program director and select program faculty (either in person or by phone if visiting in person is not possible) prior to being offered admission to the MMP Program.
