  • Have you ever been placed on probation, dismissed or suspended from any college or university for reasons pertaining to academic integrity? If yes, please include any facts that you believe bear on the significance of this circumstance.
  • Please describe your career objectives and reasons for choosing the Medical Physics Graduate Program at Penn, including any previous experience with the field of medical physics. Also, use this as an opportunity to tell us about yourself and help us get to know you better. A well-written, thoughtful and concise, essay is an important part of Penn's Medical Physics Program application.

Letters of Recommendation

You must submit three letters of recommendation in support of your application. These should be from individuals with whom you have had a close professional or academic association and who know of your desire to study medical physics at an advanced level. Recommenders may complete their letters online or submit hard copy letters of recommendation. To submit online recommendations, follow the instructions in the Recommendations section of the online application. If your recommendations will not be submitted online, please complete the LPS cover sheet for letters of recommendation, give it to your references, and have them complete and attach the form to their letter. Download the recommendation form.

Standardized Test Scores

The GRE General Test is required of all applicants to the medical physics masters program. The Physics Subject Test or another Subject Test relevant to your undergraduate education is recommended and could help your application, but is not required.  Request that your score reports for the GRE General Test and any subject tests be forwarded to the College of Liberal and Professional Studies using the ETS institutional code 2986.

Most international applicants must also submit TOEFL scores (see: www.sas.upenn.edu/lps/english_proficiency). If the medium of instruction for your undergraduate degree was not English, you must submit an official TOEFL score. The minimum TOEFL scores required for admissions consideration are: 100 (iBT), 250 (CBT), or 600 (PBT). The TOEFL must be sent from ETS using the institutional code 2986. To locate a testing site near you or schedule an exam, visit the TOEFL website

Upon review of an applicant's file, the admissions committee reserves the right to request TOEFL scores.
