MSAG Student Wins Award
William Francisco Johns-Villa also known as JV was the 2009 recipient of the Institute for Environmental Studies Award for Excellence in Applied Geosciences. JV was presented with the award at the annual Henry Darwin Rogers Distinguished Lecture on May 1, 2009. An August 2009 graduate, JV has been in the MSAG program for 3 years, taking classes at night while working full time as a Staff Geologist and later Project Manager for a local consulting firm.
JV’s concentration in the MSAG program is hydrology and he is in the process of completing his final Project Design on potential groundwater contamination in the Delaware River basin from the Natural Gas Extraction process known as fracking
JV won the IES award based on both his academic excellence and his contributions to the MSAG program which include organizing student events and serving as a member of the MSAG Graduate Student Advisory Board.
