Engineering Geology

Topics in the Engineering Geology concentration focus on solving challenges presented by the meeting of earth and man-made structures. Your studies will focus on the engineering and mechanical properties and behavior of earth materials (soils, water and rocks). Attention is given to special geotechnical issues, such as erosion, slope stability and selected geological hazards to engineered structures.

Graduates with this concentration usually work for environmental engineering or geotechnical consulting firms, though many choose to pursue additional studies and research at the doctoral level.

Student research

Your project design is a culmination of your classroom, research and field experiences in the MSAG program. Take a look at abstracts by MSAG alumni with a concentration in Engineering Geology to understand the breadth of design project topics and formats.

At the end of your studies in the Master of Science in Applied Geosciences (MSAG) program, you create a research poster to showcase your project design. Please note that these courses are currently approved for this concentration. However, you may request to add different courses, and new courses may also become available.
