Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Pre-Health Studies

What is a certificate in pre-health studies?
The certificate in pre-health studies consists of a set of pre-health core and elective courses designed to enrich the academic preparation of post-baccalaureate students interested in a career in the health professions and enhance their application to health professions schools. In addition, candidates for the certificate must earn a minimum MCAT score of 30; or DAT score of 20; or a comparable score or other appropriate standardized health profession school admission test.
What are the benefits of the certificate option?
Completion of the certificate option will:
  • broaden and enrich academic preparation for health professional school curriculum
  • foster success on the admission tests such as MCAT, DAT, etc.
  • further enhance acceptance into a health professions school
  • recognize academic achievement with the award an academic certificate with a notation on the Penn transcript
Who is eligible for the certificate option?
The certificate option is designed for highly motivated students who wish to complete course work required for health professional school admission.
May I transfer credits into the certificate program?
No. All courses required for the certificate must be completed at he University of Pennsylvania
How long will it take to complete a certificate option?
Requirements for the certificate may be completed within 12 months BUT no later than 24 months.
How many courses can be taken per term?
Students may take up to 4 courses per term
Is there a time limitation for completing the certificate?
Yes. Requirements for the certificate must be completed within 24 months.
When can I apply for a certificate option?
Eligible candidates may apply for a certificate at the beginning of the term in which they expect to complete all requirements for the certificate.
What are the tuition rates for the certificate program?
Regular tuition rates for LPS courses will apply.
Is financial assistance available?
Post-Baccalaureate students may apply for Stafford or private loans.
