Alumni Profiles: Ginny Davis

Ginny Davis

B.A. 1998

"In 1995, after graduating from Delaware County Community College, I began my part-time studies for a history degree at Penn, enrolling in the College of General Studies (now the College of Liberal and Professional Studies). My transfer of courses to Penn went smoothly and I received strong academic advising from staff, who assisted me in choosing courses and making the most of my undergraduate experience at Penn despite doing this in my late 30s. While a student, I pursued undergraduate research grant opportunities and was awarded two grants. This allowed me to work closely with a noted faculty mentor who is an historian. These individualized study projects that I conducted were the highlight of my student experience.

My successful studies gave me the confidence to pursue and complete a master’s degree in higher education management at Penn's Graduate School of Education. I graduated from that program in 2006. Currently I serve as an associate director in Penn’s Office of Government and Community Affairs.

Because of my experience at Penn's CGS, I have found it easy to encourage others to consider studying at the University of Pennsylvania’s College of Liberal and Professional Studies because of the academic strength of the programs and students, services, and special study and program opportunities. Last fall I recommended the LPS undergraduate program to my daughter, Sarah Davis. She took my advice and applied for admission as a transfer student.  Sarah was accepted and began her full-time studies here in January. I couldn’t be more pleased that she has followed in my footsteps and chosen to attend this special undergraduate program at Penn."
