What are the dates for Summer Session?
  • 6-Week Summer Session I: Tuesday, May 26th - Thursday, July 2nd
  • 6-Week Summer Session II: Monday, July 6th - Friday, August 14th
  • *12-Week Evening Session: Tuesday, May 26th - Friday, August 14th

*12-Week Evening courses are generally restricted to LPS students only.  This includes LPS undergraduate, post-baccalaureate, graduate, Penn Alumni, and visiting summer students. 

Though some seats in the 12-Week Evening courses will be made available to non-LPS students at the start of Summer Registration, the remaining seats for these courses will be restricted to LPS students only until the second day of classes - Thursday, May 28, 2009.  On that day any restrictions placed on these courses will be manually lifted and non-LPS students may attempt to register for these courses at that time.  Permits are not required for non-LPS students; rather, non-LPS students are encouraged to attempt to register at any time through Penn InTouch and if seats are available they will be issued on a first-come first-serve basis. 

Do I have to apply in order to register for Summer Session courses?
No - if you are a Penn student seeking to enroll in summer courses you should register for courses through Penn InTouch.  All current students are encouraged to speak with an advisor from his or her academic program prior to enrolling in summer courses.

Current Penn students need only apply if they are seeking to participate in one of the Penn Summer Abroad programs.  The application process for those programs and the locations offered during the Summer Session can be found here: 

What courses do I have access to as a current Penn student? Are there restrictions on any of the courses offered?
All current Penn students are eligible to enroll in Summer Session courses. The two 6-Week Sessions are open to all students.  All students are encouraged to speak with an academic advisor from his or her academic program prior to enrolling in summer courses.

What is an LPS student versus a non-LPS student?

LPS students are enrolled in a degree or non-degree program through the College of Liberal and Professional Studies.  LPS students include those that are enrolled in LPS undergraduate, post-baccalaureate, and graduate programs.  Penn Alumni, Visiting Summer Students, Penn Summer Alumni, and Quaker Consortium Alumni are also enrolled through an LPS program and therefore are considered to be LPS students.

Any student that is currently enrolled through any department outside of LPS is considered a non-LPS student.  This includes undergraduate and graduate students that are enrolled in programs within the College of Arts and Sciences, Graduate Arts and Sciences, the School of Nursing, the Wharton School, etc.   

How do I go about registering for courses?

Are there any online courses offered during the Summer Session? If so, may I register for those courses?

LPS and non-LPS students currently enrolled at the University of Pennsylvania may register for LPS Online Courses through Penn InTouch.

6-Week courses in the Summer Session, including LPS Online Courses, are open to all Penn students. Spaces in LPS Online Courses are available on a first-come first-serve basis.

Is housing available during the Summer Session?

Are internships and/or job opportunities available during the Summer Session?

Current Penn students are welcome to contact Career Services to inquire about summer internships and job opportunities. Please use the following link:

Am I eligible for financial aid?
Current Penn students should contact Student Financial Services regarding financial aid for Summer Session courses.
Is advisement available during the Summer Session?

LPS students are offered advisement during the Summer Session in the same manner that they are offered advisement during the spring and fall semesters.  If you are a current LPS student please contact your academic advisor as you ordinarily would during the fall and spring terms to schedule an appointment during the Summer Session.

Please note that LPS Undergraduate advisors may not advise undergraduate students from other schools at Penn.  Current students from any of Penn's undergraduate degree programs are encouraged to speak with his or her advisor from their home school (College of Arts and Sciences, Wharton Undergraduate, etc.) prior to enrolling in Summer Session courses. 

What is the tuition for Summer Session courses?

Tuition is determined by the number of courses you are enrolled in and which school at Penn - Undergraduate Arts & Sciences, LPS Evening, Wharton Undergraduate, School of Nursing, etc. - is offering each course you are enrolled in.

If, for example, you are enrolled in a 6-Week Summer Session course that is offered by Undergraduate Arts and Sciences then you will be charged the Undergraduate Arts and Sciences tuition rate for that course.  If you also enroll in one Wharton Undergraduate course then you will be charged the Wharton Undergraduate tuition rate for that course.
