Pre-Nursing

The School of Nursing at the University of Pennsylvania admits applicants with varied educational backgrounds and experience. For many who are interested in obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree at Penn, the College of Liberal and Professional Studies is the first step.

Second-Degree Students

Second-degree students should see a School of Nursing advisor before applying to the College of Liberal and Professional Studies. (Call Filomena Circelli, Associate Director - Accelerated Programs, 215.573.3047) Depending on their previous college record, their undergraduate major, and the number of years since graduation, students will be advised to apply directly to either the School of Nursing through transfer admissions or to the Pre-Nursing Program in LPS. If advised to apply to LPS, they should make an appointment with a Recruitment Specialist by calling 215.898.7326.

Registered Nurses

Registered Nurses who have attended a hospital diploma school may enroll in the College of Liberal and Profession al Studies, where they must complete eight courses and maintain a 3.0 grade point average before applying for internal transfer to the School of Nursing. If their diploma program included some college coursework, it is possible to receive credit toward the B.S.N. for that coursework, provided it is approved for transfer by the School of Nursing. If the previous diploma program included eight transferable courses, the student may apply directly to the School of Nursing through the office of transfer admissions.
