James Diaz Receives Commission From Inaugural “Composing Inclusion” Partnership
James Diaz, Fifth Year Graduate Student in Composition, has been selected as one of the nine composers for Composing Inclusion, a new partnership between the New York Philharmonic, The Juilliard School’s Preparatory Division, and American Composers Forum, and made possible with a Sphinx Venture Fund grant.
Announcing Auditions for All Music Departmental Ensembles for the 2022-2023 Academic Year
All UPenn students are invited and encouraged to continue their music making as a member of one of the Music Department’s many ensembles, which are open to all students regardless of major. Auditions for the Penn Music ensembles begin on Tuesday, August 30 and continue through Tuesday, September 7. Please read carefully through audition requirements as each ensemble has a different set of criteria and deadlines. Professor Timothy Rommen's Pre-Freshman class, 'A Borderless Caribbean?: The Creole Geographies of Dominica’s Popular Music', was offered as part of the 2022 Center for Africana Studies Summer Institute for Pre-Freshmen. The Summer Institute is a one-week intensive study experience that exposes students to a variety campus resources, alongside intellectual and cultural themes in Africana Studies before their first year at Penn.
