Tristan Paré-Morin

Third Year Graduate Student in Musicology
Room 103, Music Building

My studies focus on the relationships between art music and various genres of popular music such as jazz, musical theater and song, both in France and in America. I investigate the technical and cultural impacts of the cross-fertilization of musical genres and art forms, mainly during the interwar period (1919-1939). I am currently working on issues of nostalgia and cosmopolitanism in early 20th-century Paris, exploring the aesthetic and political aims of creative nostalgia in music and its interaction with other art forms, especially literature.

In my free time, besides being a pianist and chorister, I enjoy writing fiction and composing instrumental music and songs.
