Audition forms and requests for the 2015-2016 academic year will start being accepted on Monday, August 3rd 2015.  Any forms submitted before this date must be re-submitted on or after August 3rd to be considered.  Thank you.

The following information is for 2015-2016.

AUDITION SCHEDULE 

Returning Penn Wind Ensemble members are not required to sign up for an audition this year.

 

  • Wednesday, August 26th:  PSO Strings/Wind/Brass/Percussion 12pm-6pm - wind/brass/percussion PSO+PWE* 10am-12pm
  • Thursday, August 27th:  PSO Strings/Wind/Brass/Percussion 12pm-6pm - wind/brass/percussion PSO+PWE* 10am-12pm
  • Friday, August 28th:  PSO Strings/Wind/Brass/Percussion 12pm-6pm - wind/brass/percussion PSO+PWE* 10am-12pm
  • Saturday, August 29th:  STUDENTS AUDITIONING FOR PSO and/or PENN CHAMBER, PENN BAROQUE ENSEMBLE should audition on this date; PSO/Penn Chamber/Penn Baroque Ensemble 10am-4pm

*Wind/Brass/Percussion students who are interested in Penn Wind Ensemble and Penn Symphony Orchestra should audition during these times

Auditions will be held in Amado Recital Hall, Irvine Auditorium (34th and Spruce Streets).

Auditions will last approximately 6-7 minutes each; students will be assigned a 20-minute time slot during which the audition will be held.

Instrumental Ensembles: You will be asked to play 3-5 minutes of music of your choosing.  Please prepare selections that contain at least two contrasting styles (i.e. lyrical and technical).  Memorization is not required.

  • Saturday, August 29th 10am-4pm (for combined auditions only) - Amado Recital Hall in Irvine Auditorium
  • Tuesday, September 1st 3pm-9pm (for Baroque/Recorder only) - Room 101, Lerner Center - 201 S. 34th Street

 


Penn Chamber

 

  • Saturday, August 29th 10am-4pm (for combined auditions only) - Amado Recital Hall in Irvine Auditorium
  • Tuesday, September 1st 3pm-9pm (for Penn Chamber only) - Room 101, Lerner Center - 201 S. 34th Street

University Choral Society/University Choir/Ancient Voices

 

  • Wednesday, Aug. 26th - Thursday, Aug. 27th 11am-4pm
  • Monday, August 31st -Thursday, Sept. 3rd 11am-4pm (those interested in University Choral Society can attend the first rehearsal on Monday, Aug. 31st at 8pm in Rose Recital Hall, 419 Fisher-Bennett Hall, and audition immediately following the rehearsal)
  • Tuesday, Sept. 8 - Wednesday, Sept. 9th 11am-4pm

 

Auditions for all choral ensembles will be held in Room 231, Music Building (201 S. 34th Street)

There is nothing to prepare for these auditions. You will be asked to sing a series of vocal exercises at your audition. Some sight-reading skill is required for both smaller ensembles - Ancient Voices and the University Choir.

Brazilian Samba Ensemble

Students interested in auditioning for the Samba Ensemble should contact Mike Stevens directly for information.  No audition is required.

Arab Music Ensemble

Students interested in Arab Music Ensemble should the attend the first session - Thursday, August 27th in Room 101 of the Lerner Center 201 s. 34th St.

Music 10 (PLEASE NOTE CHANGE FROM ORIGINAL SCHEDULE!)

Auditions for the Music 10 Program will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 8 from 12-2:30pm, and Wednesday, Sept. 9 from 1-3pm. Sign up for a time outside of room 227 Lerner Center.

Please remember that the Music 10 Program is open to music majors and minors only.
