The Department's largest ensemble groups, such as the University Choral Society, Penn Symphony Orchestra, and the Penn Wind Ensemble perform twice a year on the historic main stage of Irvine Auditorium. The hall seats 1259 audience members, including a mezzanine and balcony level, and is inspired by the 1920s gothic architecture. The main hall's ceiling is also decorated with symbols that reflect the philosophical history of the university. Some performances also feature the famous 11,000-pipe Curtis organ, housed in Irvine, which is the seventh-largest organ in the world.
