Conference Events and Concerts

Thursday, November 8, 5:30 - 7:00 p.m., Reception, Institute of Contemporary Art

Opening Reception for SMT 2001, hosted by the School of Arts and Sciences, University of Pennsylvania. Wine and hors d'oeuvres, with all galleries of the Institute of Contemporary Art open for SMT attendees. Conference Registration Badge required for admission.

 

Friday, November 9, 5:15 - 6:30 p.m., Reception, Kamin Gallery, Penn Library

Exhibit of Early Theory Materials and Musical Autographs in the Penn Collection. Opening reception hosted by the Friends of the Library and the Musical Fund Society. The reception will include a performance of the Bartok Third Quartet by the Cassatt Quartet playing from the original performing materials in the Penn Library Collection. Conference Registration Badge required for admission.

Plenary Concert: Music of Crumb and Rochberg. One ticket included with conference registration; additional tickets available at $12 each.

George Crumb, Celestial Mechanics (Makrokosmos IV) for amplified piano (four hands) and A Little Suite for Christmas, A.D. 1979 for piano

George Rochberg, String Quartet No. 3.

The concert will include a conversation with the composers.
