While the entire interview was an educational experience, here are some of the highlights of the time we spent with Mr. Lancaster.

Every aspiring artist has to have a starting point. In this clip, Byard recounts his
experiences as a young musician in Philadelphia.

New jazz forms are constantly being born, the result of constant collaboration among musicians. Here, Byard tells of a time in the late 1960s when he ate, drank and slept jazz with other famous artists such as Sun Ra and Jimmy Garrison.

Byard plays one of his newest compositions entitled "Pan-Africa", which will be featured on an album slated for release in Summer 2005.
