About The Author


Ian S Lustick, Professor of Political Science at the University of Pennsylvania, is a specialist On Middle Fastern politics, with particular reference to Israel and Arab-Israeli relations. In 1979 and 1980 he worked at the State Department's Bureau of Intelligence and Research as a Council on Foreign Relations Fellow responsible for analysis of Israel-West Bank affairs. He is currently President of the Association for Israel Studies.

Dr. Lustick's other books include: Unsettled States, Disputed Lands: Britain and Ireland, France andAlgeria, Israel and the West Bank-Gaza (Cornell University Press, 1993); State-Building Failure in British Ireland and French Algeria (University of California, Institute of International Studies, 1985); and Arabs in the Jewish State: Israel's Control of a National Minority (University of Texas, 1980). He is also the editor of a ten-volume series entitled ArabIsraeli Relations: A Collection of Contending Perspectives and Recent Research (Garland Publishing, 1994). Articles by Dr. Lustick have appeared in such publications as Foreign Affairs, Foreign Policy, American Political Scicnce Review, World Politics, International Organization, The Middle East Journal, Megamot, and Middle Eastern Studies.
