PREREQUISITES

In planning a course of action that would result in a PPE major, the student should be alert to the fact that many of the classes necessary for the major are offered in departments outside PPE. These departments may impose prerequisites for taking their classes. Students are urged to consult with the respective department (check their webpage first) and/or the course register to learn about the pre-requisites. In particular, for students intending to pursue higher level classes in Economics, mathematical pre-requisites are very important. As of 2005-6, all higher level Econ courses require Math 104 and Math 114 or 115 as prerequisites.

PPE is not involved in the process with which other departments impose prerequisites for their classes. If there might be a way for a student to waive or substitute the prerequisites necessary for non-PPE classes, that way has to involve direct interaction between the student and the instructor or undergraduate chair/coordinator of that department. As long as the student takes a class outside the department that is acceptable for the major, and performs adequately in the class, the student will get the 1 credit going towards the PPE major, irrespective of how the student obtained the right to take the class.
