Dear colleague,
We are writing to ask for your help in identifying a talented
postdoctoral fellow to conduct research at the intersection of
condensed-matter theory and electronic structure theory of materials.
The recent discovery of topological insulators has engendered great
excitement, and the quest to expand the range of real materials that
exhibit this phenomenon is compelling. To augment our efforts in this
area, we plan to hire a postdoctoral fellow in this area at the end of
2009 or early in 2010. The successful candidate should have strong
capabilities in applying numerical solid-state electronic structure
techniques to materials problems of physical interest, as well as the
capacity to understand the state of topological insulator theory and
its application to real materials.
We think that the opportunity to work under joint supervision (with
Kane and Rappe) is a benefit of this position. Other researchers
keenly interested in topological insulators at Penn include Prof. Gene
Mele and Prof. Jay Kikkawa, so the opportunities for fruitful
intellectual dialog will be great for the successful candidate.
Thank you for directing appropriate candidates to us.
Sincerely,
Charles L. Kane
Professor of Physics
