Ed Rendell to Address the Class of 1998
The Honorable Edward G. Rendell, mayor of Philadelphia and member of the College's Class of 1965, will be the speaker at the College graduation ceremony on May 17. Nearly 1,500 will receive undergraduate degrees from the College this year.


Meet the New Dean of SAS
The School of Arts and Sciences invites alumni and their guests to a coffee reception to meet our new dean, Samuel H. Preston, the Frederick J. Warren Professor of Demography in the Department of Sociology. His reception will be held during Alumni Weekend on Saturday, May 16, from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the new philosophy library in Logan Hall. Last Stargazing Night of the Semester
The Department of Physics and Astronomy invites you to stargaze at the final open observatory night of the semester on Tuesday, May 5, from 8:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. All ages are welcome and encouraged; reservations are not required. The observatory is located on the rooftop of the David Rittenhouse Laboratory at 33rd and Walnut Streets. Please call (215) 898-5995 during business hours to check weather conditions on the day of the event. Alumni Weekend '98
Alumni are invited back to Penn's campus May 15-17 for activities, celebrations, and reunions. SAS is sponsoring several alumni/faculty exchanges on a variety of topics, including "Politics and Israel," "Jewish Identities in the Contemporary World," "Fighting Quakers: From Battlefield to Classroom in 1940s America," and "Designer Babies." The weekend will include the College Alumni Society's Annual Meeting and Student Awards Reception as well as an Open House in the restored Logan Hall at 249 South 36th Street.
