SAS Becomes More Selective

The bad news is that most applicants for fall '98 undergraduate admission to SAS were disappointed by the rejection notices they received. The good news is that admission to Penn's School of Arts and Sciences is more selective than ever. Applications for the class of 2002 are up 5.8 percent over last year. Of the 10,655 applicants, only 29 percent received acceptances--down from last year's acceptance rate of 31 percent. The average SAT score of admitted applicants is 1397: 695 verbal and 702 math. The College admitted 309 children of alumni.
