Clinton on Campus
President Clinton addressed the campus community at Irvine Auditorium on February 24. He delivered a talk on "The New Economy" as the first speaker for the Granoff Forum on International Development and the Global Economy. Established by the family of Michael Granoff, C80, the new program will bring to campus distinguished visitors to examine globalization and its economic, social, and political impact. The Granoff Forum is sponsored by the SAS International Relations Program, the Christopher H. Browne Center, and the Joseph H. Lauder Institute. After delivering his 35-minute speech, President Clinton came down from the stage and spent almost as much time shaking hands, answering questions, and talking to students. "The president has a very powerful presence," said College sophomore Jamie Dufresne. "I was impressed with his policy on economics and how inclusive it was of technology." Added senior Lisa Marshall, "I think, regardless of what you think of the presidents views . . . hes an intriguing speaker."
