Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Representation
MANNIS, STEPHANIE DANIELLE
This class investigates the history of LGBT representation in a range of popular media since the 1960s--film, television, music, pornography, the Internet, video games, and so on. We will consider on-going debates about queer images, including stereotypes, camp, and the value of limits of "positive images." The class includes a strong emphasis on independent research: students will learn how to develop and carry out an original qualitative research project throughout the semester.
