Course Description:

An accelerated introduction to the Latin language for beginners, equivalent to the first year of Latin (101+102). Ideal for students with some background in learning languages, or who need to learn the language rapidly. Students who complete this course will be prepared to take Latin 212 in the second summer session, or Latin 203 (3rd semester Latin) in the Fall. By the end of the 5.5 week session, students will have a complete working knowledge of Latin grammar, solidified through exercises in reading and writing and selected readings of inscriptions, poetry, and literary prose, and they will command a basic reading vocabulary. We will spend the last week on one or two extended readings in classical Latin, which will be chosen according to student interests.
