Course Description: 

This class explores the paradoxes of Argentina in the XXI Century: the effects of rapid cultural modernization and the neoliberal democracy of the 1990s; cultural survival in the face of financial default in 2001; Nestor Kirchner, financial recuperation, and economic growth since 2003; the presidency of Cristina Fernandez and current unorthodox financial policies in the context of the crises of the developed world; and the challenges of Argentine cultural and economic integration in Latin America.
